Getting fit, staying healthy, and building muscle mass are usually the three biggest concerns in men’s diets. What works for the ladies may not be a good idea for the guys. Your goal may be to lose weight or it may be to turn what you have into muscle mass. Here are some tips that would help you tailor the men’s diet you decide to follow.
1. Count calories.
Stores that sells books or men’s diet foods will have available calorie charts. Men require more than women, but the specific amount will depend on your end goal. If you are looking to lose weight, your intake should be less than what you are burning off. If you are looking to build muscle mass without getting thinner, you will need to actually increase your calories to fuel the extra workouts.
2. Exercise.
Any healthy men’s diet will need to include an exercise plan. Anything from walking regularly to lifting weights will keep your body healthier, increase your metabolism and boost your energy. A consultation with a personal trainer is always a good idea to get started on a workout regimen that is right for you.
3. Get the right nutrients.
Proteins, vitamins and minerals all play an important role in the proper functioning of the body. Men’s diets should include fruits and vegetables for zinc and other vital nutrients, as well as meat, eggs, and other sources of protein. Protein bars and granola snacks are good addition for between-meal boosts.
4. Limit alcohol.
Besides the impact of regular alcohol use on overall health, it is one of the worst substances as far as dieting goes. Alcohol is high in calories while having no nutritional value whatsoever. These “empty” calories are immediately stored as fat because the body has no other use for them.
5. Find what works for you.
Men’s diets work much better when tailored to the specific person. Guys are much less likely to stick to a plan that is overly restrictive or eliminates favorite foods. Unless you have a specific medical problem that calls for a specific meal plan, feel free to mix and match elements of different diets. No diet is going to improve your health and physical functioning if you won’t stick to it.
